Minutes of the October, 2018 FWRC general meeting are available:

The October foxhunt occurred on a cool, foggy, rain threatening fall day, that being 7 October 2018. We were back up to the usual foxhunt team strength of three. Team one consisted of Charles Ward, KC9MUT and Fred Gengnagel, KC9EZP. Team two included Steve and Linda Nardin, W9’s SAN & LAN. Team three was composed of Don Glick, K9LI, his wife Julie and her father Ed.
Jim Pliett, K9OMA, Carole Burke, WB9RUS and Al Burke, WB9SSE served as the fox for this outing. They had previously scouted out a publicly accessible hide location in the Cedar Creek area north of the city that they had concluded was a suitably evil spot, and had gone to some lengths fabricating a fairly clever camouflage scheme to hide the microfox. Much to their horror, when they arrived at the site around 13:00, they found that access to the site had been barred by virtue of a padlock. Panic ensued. They started driving around aimlessly looking for a spot to stop, got thoroughly lost, and finally wound up at the corner of Lanyard Lane and Cable Trail, just north of East Cedar Canyons Rd. and east of Coldwater.

Well, the September foxhunt started as usual from Cobin Memorial Park at 1:30 pm, on Sunday 10 September, on anything but a typical Indiana summer’s day. It was cool, about 600 F, rainy, and windy with a thick overcast blotting out the sun. Not necessarily a nice day to hunt. Of course, that meant nothing to the hunters, after all, they are animals.
Only one foxhunting crew was able to participate in this hunt, that being the stalwart team of Jim & Annie Pliett, K9OMA & KA9YYI, plus Carole & Al Burke, WB9’s RUS & SSE. The other usual suspects (hunter teams) were either convalescing from surgery or using Sunday afternoon to attend to repairs on their automobiles and antenna systems. (Some grumbled as to “How can that stuff be more important than Foxhunting?”). Then again, 10 September was the date of the Findlay Hamfest, so that might have dissuaded some other folks from participating. We plan to schedule around such events in the future.

FROM ACARTS:
Saturday, August 11th is the date of the 2018 ACARTS Picnic. The picnic was a great success last year, so this year’s picnic will be pretty much the same. The Picnic will be start around 4:00 p.m. with the food served around 5:00 p.m., and will again be held at the Jefferson Township Park on Webster Road, east of New Haven. The club will provide the hamburgers and hotdogs, chips, and drinks. Salads, desserts, and other goodies will be a pot-luck carry-in.
The ACARTS Picnic is a family affair, so plan on bring your spouse, kids, or grandkids. Let me know if you have any ideas for activities to be held with the picnic. Members of ACARTS, the Fort Wayne Radio Club, and the Fort Wayne DX Association are invited, with a special invitation to the new hams in the area. The picnic provides an excellent opportunity to have casual conversations and get to know your fellow hams and their families.
I need to get a head count of those members and guest will be attending, so we know how much food to purchase. Please contact me at w9lkh@comcast.net and let me know if you plan to attend and how many guests will be with you. Please let me know no later than Tuesday, August 7th.
An article giving more details, as well as a map to show the park location will appear in the August issue of the Allen County HamNews.
I hope to see you there.
73,
Dave, W9LKH
ACARTS President
